POSTER AND ESSAY COMPETITIONS

JUNIOR RED CROSS AWARDS RESULTS ANNOUNCED In connection with the twenty-first birthday celebrations of the June Red Cross held recently, two competitions were held—a health poster and an essay competition. A prize of £1 Is was given by Dr. S. A. Gibbs, chairman of the Nelson Red Cross Society, for the health poster. Mr W. H. Allen was the judge. The results were as follows: Ada Clark (Hampden Street School), 1; Barbara Lane (Nelson Central School). 2: Amalia Deliva (St. Joseph’s School. Nelson), 3; Trevor Savage (Nelson Central School), 4. The he i posters are at present displayed in a window at McKay and Sons. The essay competitic , “IJ'he Junior Red Cross,” had a secondary and primary section. A prize of £1 Is for each section was donated by Mrs E. A. Riley, honorary organiser of the Nelson J.R.C. Mr A. Alloo was the judge. The results were as follows: Secondary section: Marie Fowler, 1; Frances Fairburn, 2; Dulcie Costello and Marcia Curtain, equal 3 (all of Sacred Heart Girls’ College). Primary schQol section: Jocelyn Adams (Nelson Central School), 1; Phyllis Knapp (Sacred Heart Girls’ College), 2; Beverley Riley and Basil Green (Nelson Central School), equal 3. For both the poster and the essay competitions, entries were received from members of the Junior Red Cross from several of the schools of the Nelson district. There were 33 essay entries and 52 poster entries.
