AIR FORCE CONCERT PARTY

PERFORMANCE AT RICHMOND TOWN HALL Not for a long time has the Richmond public enjoyed a better entertainment than the one given by the R.N.Z.A.F. Concert Party under the direction of Flight Lieut. G. Chippendale and by permission of the commanding officer, Wing Commander A. H. Manhire. The hall was well filled but owing to unfortunate weather conditions a good number must have been kept away. A feature of the evening was the smart manner in which the wide variety of items were staged and the high standard of performance. The most popular turn was no doubt that contributed by AC2 Leslie who held the audience in suspense with an exhibition of the conjuror’s art of which Mr Leslie is a clever exponent. At the conclusion the Mayor, Mr A. R. Tuffnell, on behalf of the Richmond people thanked the party for coming out and assured them of a warm welcome on any future occasion if they were able to arrange another visit. F/Lt. Chippendale returned thanks for the welcome accorded. RETURNED SOLDIER HONOURED Occasion was taken at the interval to extend a welcome home to Private A. Fauchellc who has recently been invalided back from the Middle East. An apology was read from Private J. Scarlett, another returned man, whose people have lately come to reside in the borough. The Mayor, speaking on behalf of the residents, assured Private Fauchellc of their pleasure in having him safely back. Mr Tuffnell also spoke of the reputation New Zealanders had made for themselves in North Africa, a name, he said, second to none in the world for lighting qualities. In this, he continued, Private Fauchelle had played no small part. Mr H. Stratford, on behalf of the Returned Services’ Association, welcomed the guest of the evening and impressed upon him the willingness of the Association to do everything possible to assist men on their return. Private Fauchelle briefly thanked the speakers and the public for their warm welcome.
