DISOBEDIENT DEFAULTER IMPRISONED
Palmerston N., July 2. "1 have been in a defaulters 5 camp for 14 months and have not done one useful day’s work. There are 700 men in the same camp who uo nothing, but twiddle their thumbs.” stated Thomas Smith, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with refusing an order to cut kindling wood. Imposing a sentence of three months’ imprisonment with hard laboui*, Mr La wry, S.M., said: “You’ll find something useful to do there.”—P.A.
