NEW WEAPONS FOR ALLIES
ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN AND ROCKET MORTAR New York, June 23. A new 4.7in anti-aircraft gun with an accurate range of 60,000 ft was now being manufactured in huge quantities, said Major-General Barnes, an officer of the Ordnance Corps. He stated that this range was 20,000 ft greater than the best available anti-aircraft guns at present, including the enemy’s. General Barnes also disclosed details of the “bazooka,” the deadly, portable anti-tank weapon. It weighs 121 b, and tv o infantrymen were able to carry and operate it. Its 2£lb projectile is a rocket, containing an explosive far more powerful than T.N.T. The'“Bazooka” can be fired from the 5 "antryman’s shoulder, since it is open at both ends and has no recoil. Its action is blasting and incendiary rather than penetrating. After piercing x the tank the projectile ignites the ammunition and fuel, causing the tank to explode. General Barnes said that the “bazooka” was available to the Allies.— P.A.
