RIVAL FRENCH LEADERS
DE GAULLE LOSING GROUND VIEW IN WASHINGTON New York, June 24. Informed diplomatic circles in Washington hold the view that General de Gaulle is losing ground in the struggle against General Giraud for the French Command, says the Associated Press of America. These authorities believe that the British are on the eve of abandoning General de Gaulle. British representatives in the United States have been instructed to adopt a neutral policy towards General de Gaulle. The Associated Press of America adds that British as well as Americans believe that General de Gaulle attempted unsuccessfully to, stage a political coup to make himself sole and absolute master of the Fighting French. The British are represented as feeling that if they continued to support General de Gaulle against the American-backed General Giraud, Anglo-American relations would be undermined.—P.A.
