GOVERNMENT “MISUSE OF RADIO”
ALLEGATION BY MR BROADFOOT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. New Zealand was the only place outside some of the Nazi-ridden countries of Europe where one could not get fair access to the radio, said Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nat., Waitomo) in the House of Representatives last night, when he adversely criticised the "misuse and abuse of the radio in this Dominion.” The radio had ceased to be a public utility for the amusement and education of the people, said Mr Broadfoot. and like the farmers’ produce it had been commandeered by the Government. To-day the Ministers and their satellites hid behind a microphone to distribute their propaganda and so avoided criticism, contradiction and exposure. Mr Broadfoot compared this with the method of the 8.8. C. which permitted discussion of political questions of the day by all sides of political thought.
