HODSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. So far 58 speakers have contributed to the Financial Debate in the House of Representatives, and there is every possibility of a reply being made by the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) early next. week. There were five speakers yesterday. An interesting feature of the discussion was a revelation by the Minister of Health {Mt-A. H. Nordmeyer) that before the introduction of the Budget, the Govermtieftt had been seriously considering an increase in direct taxation. The usual morning sitting was not held to-day as members of both Houses met in the Parliament social hall to discuss the war situation with Lieut.General Bernard Freyberg, General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces in the Middle East.
