INTERCESSION

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” O God, in the midst of all our preparations for safety from our enemies save us from trust in these as sufficient for our final security as a people. Help us to confess before Thee the pride and the self-seeking that ever threaten to undermine our lives and turn us from the doing of Thy will. Give to us that spirit that will make us bearers of one another’s burdens and helpers of one another’s joys. Teach us by Thy life-giving Spirit that it is as we lose our lives in larger interests and more glad and willing service of others that we find them. Give us strength to live for the right. While we pray for victory over the oppressor we would seek, too, the safety of the contrite heart. Give to us, we beseech Thee, the mind attuned to Thy holy will, and the ear open to the heavenly voice. Amen.
