STANDARDISED EXERCISE BOOKS

OBTAINING THE BEST VALUE For some time past a committee has been working in conjunction with the New Zealand Standards Institute on the matter of formulating standards for school stationery, states “National Education.” The negotiations between the committee and the manufacturers have been very protracted, it adds, but at last finality has been reached, and standards have been enforced for the manufacture of school exercise books which should be cn sale early in March. Specifications have been issued establishing the requirements of school paper stationery with regard to quality of paper, ruling, number and dimensions of leaves, cover and marking for exercise books for general utility work, nature study, science, craft work, book-keeping, shorthand, dressmaking and needlecraft, t.rawing books and drawing sheets; in short, for all types of school paper stationery. The object of this standardisation is to obtain not only the best value with regard to size and quality of school stationery, but also to assist teachers by providing standard record books for children’s work, e.g., all stationery should last all pupils approximately the same time.

The standardised school stationery is now on sale in Nelson.
