ESCAPE OF FRENCH DIPLOMAT

SERVICES OFFERED TO DE GAULLE (Rec. 12.45 p.m.) Rugby, Jan. 31. Rene Massigh. one of the best known and most widely experienced French diplomats, escaped from France and arrived in London where he placed his services at the disposal of General de Gaulle, states the French National Committee. He was French Ambassador to Ankara at the time of the Franco-German armistice and later was recalled and dismissed by the Vichy Government. He lived in the south of France and was in close contact with th e movement of resistance until last November, when the Germans occupied the Vichy zone. Within 24 hours of the entry of German troops a warrant for his arrest was issued. He eluded the police and since has been living in hiding.—B.O.W.
