WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

ACTIVITIES AT POHARA The monthly meeting of the Pohara Women’s Institute was held recently, the president (Mr O. C. Miller) welcoming a good number of members and visitors. A new member was welcomed. The roll call “What I enjoy most each day” was well responded to. Twentyone soldiers’ parcels were packed and posted; also four prisoners of war parcels contributed to. The half-yearly points prizes were awarded: Handcraft,

Mrs Miller 1, Mrs Woodward 2. Best bloom, Mrs Woodward 1, Mrs Grant 2. The district organiser, Mrs Stobie, gave a very interesting demonstration on quilting, also displaying various articles made from papier mache for Red Cross work. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded her.

The competitions for the month were: Handcraft, Mrs Richmond 1, Mrs Macfarlane 2; best bloom, Mrs Woodward 1, Mrs Miller 2. A competition for a baby’s outfit was won by Mrs Fosket. | During the afternon tea, served by Mrs | Cross and Mrs Forman, a competition arranged by Mrs Woodward was won | by Mrs Forman.
