REMITTANCE TO SOLDIERS
ADDITIONAL £7 10s ALLOWED FOR CHRISTMAS l From Our Own PaMiamentary Reporter 1 Wellington. Oct 22 It was not possible to avoid the ex change charge on remittances to mem bers of the New Zealand Forces serv ing overseas, stated the Prime Ministei (Mr Fraser) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, when replying to an urgent question on the subject by Mr W. W. Sullivan (National Bay of Plenty). The only alternative to such a charge being met by the sender of the money would be for State to bear the expense. “The effect of this." continued Mr Fraser, “would be to subsidise such remittances at the public cost, and such a procedure would be inequitable because those who received the largest amount of remittances would receive the largest subsidy. "The Government has already dc cided. however, to allow the additional N.Z.£7 10s to be remitted to men serving overseas for Christmas, and a public statement in this connection i? now being prepared
