AIR ALERT IN GIBRALTAR

RAIDERS DRIVEN OFF BOMBS DROPPED ON SPANISH TERRITORY (Rec. 1.20 p.m.) Gibraltar, Oct. 21. An alert was sounded last night when a few Italian planes in brilliant moonlight flew over dropping bombs which fell in Spanish territory causing casualties and damage. No bombs fell on Gibraltar. The raiders were driven off.—P.A. BOMBING ATTACKS ON MALTA London, Oct 21. There have been 1600 bombing attacks on Malta and 1069 enemy aircraft destroyed. Up to 20th September 1386 civilians had been killed and 6704 building destroyed or damaged. Sir Archibald Sinclair, Secretary of State for Air, made this statement in the House of Commons.—P.A.
