One of Major Tweedy's visitors is Miss Blackford, a New Zealander, who was placed in charge of the Red Cross advanced depot in Syria, with a store-man-driver to help. Therefore, with these new arrangement*, the care of the New’ Zealanders in all hospitals in that theatre of war should be assured. Major Tweedy again asks for maga zines, such as those mentioned a few’ weeks ago. and specially mentions “National Geographic.” “Popular Mechanics.’’ and “Wide World.” Up to date, however, the response has been negligible, so it is hoped that all those I interested in the .sick and wounded will jdo their utmost to send any of the above-named publications to their nearest Red Cross depot. The Commissioner is pleased to report the receipt of several letters from the patients in the various hospitals. These expressions of thanks, coupled with ver bal ones, give great satisfaction to all those w’ho are doing their “bit" to hlep make the enforced inactivity less onerj ous. The next-of-kin here in New Zealand will know that, with such close j attention to the needs of the Sick and Wounded, they are spared a deal of the anxiety which has been their lot in the past, states the War Purposes Committee.
