BIG SAVING MADE
ADJUSTMENT OF ROYALTIES Washington, April 28. The Secretary of the Navy. Colonel I Knox, announced to-day that the Government would save 100.000.000 dollars through a voluntary readjustment of contracts with the Sperry Corporation. Major savings had been effected by voluntary elimination of royalties in license agreements. The Sperry Company is permitting 15 other contractors to manufacture certain war equipment which the company has developed entirely. Sperry researchers developed 183 important products, of which 67 were developed since the outbreak of the war. The president of the corporation said that the results achieved had exceeded all expectations, and consequently the profit had been larger than had been expected or desired. SEIZURE OF STRIKEBOUND PLANTS Senator Conally told the Senate that he wished to withdraw his motion for immediate consideration of the seizure of strikebound plants and the freezing of labour conditions. He explained that he did not desire to press the matter and be in apparent controversy with President Roosevelt. Senator Byrd asserted that Senator Connally's action means the death of the Bill and perhaps of any other labour legislation. Senator Byrd sought unsuccessfully to obtain an agreement to delay consideration of the Bill. Senator Connallv said that any other senator could move to bring up his Bill, but none took such action. The Associated Press says that consideration by the Senate of labour legislation will be virtually postponed indefinitely as a result of the withdrawal of Senator Connally’s motion. Mr Roosevelt, who was born on 30tli January. 1882. registered to-day with the local draft board in the registration of men between the ages of 45 and 64 throughout America.—P.A.
