TAKAKA HOME GUARD
A TASK OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE APPEAL TO ALL MEN IN THE DISTRICT Field exercises of a very useful and instructive nature were carried out by Nos. 1 and 2 Platoons, A Company, Golden Bay Home Guard Battalion, during the week-end. Birch Hill and the Dairy Factory corner being the scenes of highly successful engagements with ’ enemy” forces, j On Sunday next there will be a “pick and shovel” parade with the object of making a start on a task of national importance—namely, the preparation *•£ defence positions. For this work the Home Guard is soliciting the help of all able-bodied men in the district. The l whole of A cdnpany. together with all I those willing to assist, will assemble at j the Takaka District High School at 11 a.m., and. in addition to shovels, are I asked to bring their own rations. Stobie emphasised the | importance of the work to be undeiI taken on Sunday, and expressed the hope that there would be a full aL- ; tendance of Home Guards and a good | response by other members of the community.
