PLEASURE MOTOR LAUNCHES
NO EXTRA PETROL ALLOWANCE STATEMENT BY TRANSPORT COMMISSIONER Auckland, Oct 1" No additional petrol allowance for pleasure motor launches is to be granted for the coming season, according to a reply received to representations made to the Government by the secretary of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association on behalf of affiliated clubs The letter from the Commissioner of Transport. Mr G. Laurcnson. said that the grouping of allocations in twomonthly periods would be arranged if desired .The ccv.missioner pointed out that a large private motor car. which had previously received 1U gallons a month, now received six gallons. The ! petrol position was such that the present allocations must stand. If the position improved so that an increase ! for private cars could be made, then a corresponding adjustment would be made in respect of motor launches The Minister ot Supply. Mr Sullivan, desired to convey his regret that circumstances were such that it was not possible to adopt a more generous view. He fully realised that a reduction in petrol would seriously affect boating j activities. However, if grouping of two- | monthly supplies would be helpful, the 1 Minister was prepared to concur in such an arrangement. “Conservation of petrol not only essential to the Dominion." concluded the letter, but is vital to the Empire, and I would therefore ask your member.' to accept the present restrictions in the meantime.” P.A.
