Observation of damage and casualties inflicted on the enemy has been impossible owing to very poor visibility. On the evening of 12th October nine enemy tanks came within fifty sards of British observation posts, but the standing patrol there held fast. A British general headquarters Cairo communique states: "On the n'ght of 12th--13th October a Polish patrol again successfully raided an er.emy strong point outside the eastern sector of our perimeter defence at Tobruk. In the close fighting which ensued the Poles showed great gallantry and determination in accounting for 20 enemy dead, while they themselves sustained only four casualties. "During yesterday a heavy dust storm interfered w-ith further operations both at Tobruk and in the frontier area, although in the latter zone our mobile artillery successfully engaged a number of targets.”—B.O.W.
