SEEN BY GUARDS

MAN BELIEVED TO BE GRAHAM MAN HUNT ON WEST COAST EIGHTH DAY OF SEARCH Christchurch, This Day. j Stanley Graham is still at large on the eighth day of the Koiterangi manhunt It may have been Graham whr was seen three miles from Koiterangi just before dark last night bv guards at Mr Harry Growcotl’s property on the Borough road. Three men ' who j kn jw Graham well distinctly saw the figure of a man making his way through scrub. While they are not prepared to swear that the figure was that oi Graham and no more than a cursory search could be made, the occurrence was reported to the police and the search was intensified in this area today. Growcott’s farm is the last one on the Borough road and is the most isolated in the district. The property lies behind Mount Doughboy, which rises abruptly from the fiat to a height of 1500 feet. It lies immediately behind Graham’s house, two miles away. The Hokitika Gorge lies only five miles by road from Koiterangi and it would provide a wealth of perfect cover for a fugitive. Thus it may mean that the search will have to be extended over a much wider area. * The Commissioner of Police said this morning at Koiterangi that the report was being investigated. If the man seen was Graham—and the belief that it was him is strengthened by the fact that every one else in the district was accounted for —it is possible that he is making for the back country and perhaps to Browning’s Pass for escape to Canterbury.—P.A.
