DEPENDANTS OF SOLDIERS
IMPORTANT BRANCH OF PATRIOTIC WORK During the period under review the executive has been called on to deal with a number of cases of hardship among dependants of soldiers on active service. Up to date a total of £45 6s 3d has been expended in this direction." stated a report of the Nelson Provincial Patriotic Council to a general meeting of the Council last even"ln this connection, it is pointed out that the executive expects that all patriotic committees will interest themselves in this important branch ol patriotic work and that they will investigate and report on all cases of hardship or distress that come to their notice. It seems desirable, indeed, tc suggest that in every district a special committee might well be set up with the sole function of visiting soldiers’ dependants and ascertaining their circumstances. The executive is very appreciative of the work of the Toe FI Committee who have in the city district made systematic visits to soldiers’ dependants and where necessary have dug and planted their gardens. To this particular work, the Council’s contribution lias been the provision of petrol for the delivery of men and tools."
