FRESH CRISIS FOR VICHY
GERMAN DESIRE FOR N.W. AFRICA (Rec. n.O a m.) London, Aug. 3. Germany has apparently created a fresh crisis in Vichy over the question of French bases in North-west Africa. The German controlled Paris radio today stressed the United States designs” on French North-west Africa, and Germany is reported to be demanding control of these bases from Vichy. Some reports reaching New York say that an ultimatum wa; delivered last week to Vichy by the Germans. A meeting of the Vichy Cabinet was held yesterday, and the New York message savs the German requests were refused*by Marshal Petain and General Weygand. There is no confirmation of these re ports, but the attack on Vichv by the German-controlled Paris radio indicates that fresh demands are being messed.—U.P.A.
