FAILURE OF TRADE TALKS

JAPAN AND DUTCH EAST INDIES FRIENDLY FINAL INTERVIEW London, June 17. A report from Tokio says that following the breakdown of trade talks between Japan and the Netherlands East Indies the Japanese delegation has decided to return. The Japanese Press is already adopting a threatening attitude to the Netherlands East Indies. It is stated in Batavia that Mr Yoshizawa had asked if it were possible to reopen the negotiations, but the Governor said that would be impossible and if further minor issues arose they could be dealt with by the Japanese consular representatives. The final interview is said to have been on a most friendly basis, and Mr Yoshizawa indicated that the talks had not been in vain and would lead to a better understanding of both countries’ difficulties. ENVOY LEAVES LONDON The Japanese Ambassador to London. Mr H. Shigemitsu, has left for Tokio for consultation with his Government.—U.P.A.
