PETROL STATIONS
EMERGENCY MEASURES HOME GUARD CONTROL [United Press Association] NEW PLYMOUTH, 10th February. Assumption of control of all petrol stations in the Dominion by Home Guardsmen or by petrol station employees enrolled in the Home Guard for that specific purpose is provided for in instructions issued to transport officers of the Home Guard by the National Service Department headauarters in conjunction with the Army Department. Steps have already been taken in Taranaki to carry out the instructions, and at Hawera two members of petrol station staffs have enrolled. Transport officers throughout New Zealand have received instructions to see either that male members of petrol station staffs are enrolled with the station in emergency, or that not fewer than three guardsmen are appointed to each petrol station. If the owner or manager of the petrol station is not enrolled in the Home Guard the station will be taken over by the Home Guard, which will act in accordance with instructions.
