INCREASED OPPOSITION
EXCESS PROFITS TAX [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] LONDON, 28th December. The campaign against the excess profits tax is gathering force. The chairmen of many companies at their annual meetings are complaining of inequitable incidence of the taxation. The “Daily Telegraph” says that representations have been made to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Kingsley Wood, that the tax tends to remove the incentive to efficiency and economy. The newspaper suggests that he will modify the tax in his next Budget, possibly reducing the 100 per cent duty to one of 80 or 90 per cent.
