CAKE SENT TO SOLDIERS
INVESTIGATION OF COMPLAINTS REQUESTED [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON, This Day. Notice was given in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon by Mr J. A. McL. Roy (National. Clutha). of his intention to ask the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) if he would take steps to investigate complaints of soldiers on active service that cakes sent to them which had been purchased by relatives and patriotic societies, had proved, on opening, to be unfit for consumption. Mr Roy said that a patriotic society in his district purchased a cake from a Dunedin firm in a tin which was already sealed up. When the tin was opened the cake was found to be of very poor quality and not fit to go overseas. He had a sample of the cake in his possession.
