HOME GUARD IN BRITAIN
DUTIES NOT TO BE EXTENDED [British Official Wireless] (Received 30th November, li.O a.m.) RUGBY, 29th November. In a statement on the Home Guard to-day the commander. Sir Edward Grigg. said that there was no question of using the Home Guard for any duties different from those for which it was raised —namely that of an auxiliary force for local defence. The very existence of the Home Guard enabled the regular army to maintain formations and go on with training to be used as a mobile force at home or elsewhere, but there was no intention that the Home Guard should in any way take the plgce of regulars.
