SIGNPOSTING IN MOUTERE HILLS AREA
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY ROAD DIRECTIONS IN APPLEGROWING DISTRICT The Automobile Association (Nelson) has been busy lately with the erection of new signposts in the Moutere Hills area. The work is to cover all corners enclosed by the coastal highway from the Appleby Post Office to the Jubilee Bridge and the State Highway between Jubilee Bridge and Appleby. The complete signposting of this area will entail the erection of no less than S 5 posts carrying, in all, over 120 directional and caution boards. It is intended that every roacl, however small a side road it may be, will be marked with its correct name, and in the case of no exit roads this information will be given. The average number of arms per post is over four. This is an indication that there will be ample directions given to the road user. Some of the posts will carry as many as ten aims. Distances to the points indicated will be given on the boards. A part of the work, entailing many calculations and many miles of survey travel, was the gathering of information regarding the various routes and the distances and finding the correct names of the roads. The undertaking of this section of signposting by the association will prove of assistance, not only to the stranger in the area, but also to the resident in the district when he may be giving directions to some traveller. Signposts carrying the names of side roads make excellent land marks by which to give directions. The completion of this work will be a big step towards the complete renewing of the signposting of the whole of the Nielson A.A. district.
