POWER BOARD CHARGES

(To the Editor] Sir. —In to-night’s ‘‘Mail" I notice two letters regarding Waimea Power Board to which I would like to give my support. When this board took over the supply they did not only circularise us but they also sent out canvassers to persuade us to put in all the power and heat we needed, with the assurance that the more we used the cheaper it would be. Then they put up the charges and told the poor unfortunate people that they had not signed anything so they had no case. Next they cut down the heat for the water which to say the least is most inconvenient but to add insult to injury they did not reduce the charge. It is bad enough for those who just use it for baths, and household purposes, but those who have put in washing machines, and beside have a family have a problem to face. Many are having the heater taken out and putting in chip heaters. I believe at present the charges are higher than any other in New Zealand and they are shortly to be increased. If they had not rubbed it in enough they send us a circular to the effect that they want us to save the sockets of bulbs. That is all right, but they say they will give a donation to the patriotic fund if we do. It is a question of “Who gives?”—l am etc.

ANOTHER UNFORTUNATE. Motueka, 22nd October.
