SCOTTISH CONCERT THEATRE ROYAL, LABOUR NIGHT The big Scottish to be held under the auspices of the Nelson Provincial Scottish Society in the Theatre Royal on Monday next (Labour Night) promises to be an outstanding success and should attract a large attendance from town and country. All arrangements have been completed and a very f’ne all-round programme will be presented. Variety will be the keynote arm all tastes will be catered for Two amusing 15-minute sketches will 7 e Produced by Mr Bob Howell, practices f or which have been held regularly Musical monologues, .humorous -terns, solo dances, duets, songs, instrumental and orchestral selections, etc. will make up a feast of mirth and music. BLENHEIM VISIT
Word has been received that Saturday November, will be a suitable date for the annual visit of the Nelson Society to Blenheim, and arrangements ar- 3 now being finalised for the visit to fake Diace on ♦hat date, the party returning to Nelson on Sunday evening Blenheim programme for the Sa-urday night will be supplied by members of the Nelson Society and leading talent from here The' Marlborough Scottish Society will return the visit and be responsible for the Nelson evening’s programme some time in Tanuary
It is intended to hold an Ingleside 'jfme time next month, and the Hopmanav evening will be held on New Year’s Eve This will be a big effort am 1 should be a great attraction. An Interesting programme for the next few months is now being arranged MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
It might be mentioned that candidates for membership of the Society mi c t be 18 years of age and of Scottish descent on either the male or female The annual subscription is 7s 6d for male and 2s 6d for female members and drive is now being made for new members
The aim of the Society is to cultivate social intercourse among members, to oreservo and cultivate a knowledge of ♦he records and traditions bearing on th*- historv of Scotland, to promote the study of Scottish music, literature songs and other accomnlishments. to encouragr the wearing of Highland costume and to render assistance (other than oeruniarv) and moral influence to de serving members and other Scotsmen
Al.-eadv a good response is being made tr the appeal for new members and it is hoped to bring the membership no to several hundred in the near future.
