WAR ON TIGER AND JACKAL
GENERAL WAVELL SPEAKS TO TROOPS CAIRO. 20th June. “Whatever happens, the British Empire will continue the struggle till victory is won,” declared the Commander of the British Land Forces in the Middle East, General Wavell, inaugurating a special series of broadcasts to his troops. “A savage tiger is loose in Europe, and a jackal is nosing at his heels for scraps from the kill,” he said. "We must conquer or die. We shall conquer.”
