GOOD RESPONSE BY MEN ON , PUBLIC WORKS [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] * WELLINGTON, 14th June. 1 The response of men on public works i to the Government’s appeal to transfer 1 to farm work has been excellent, ac- i cording to a statement by the Minister i of Labour, the Hon. P. ’C. Webb. Al- ‘ ’ ready 2000 men have been interviewed ! < , of those, 1000 expressed a keen desire 1 to co-operate in every way and take ■, farm work. No fewer than 500 had , , farm experience. The number of farm ! , vacancies notified to Bth June was 90, j { throughout the Dominion, 62 being for ] 1 experimenced and 28 for inxeperienced j ■ - men. : ] The Labour Department also had the j i ; names of 460 other men, including 72 ] : experienced workers The Government , ; pays a subsidy of 30s a week for inex- * perienced men employed on farms for the first six months, and 15s a week i for the second six months. 1 i
