OATS IN WAIKATO

UNUSUAL CROP HARVESTED [United Press Association] MORRINSVILLE, 9th January. The rare sight in the Waikato of a reaper and binder dealing with a crop of oats attracted the attention of passers by near Morrinsville yesterday and to-day. Mr A. W. Mellow, of Hamilton road, has grown a good crop of seven acres, the first paddock of oats seen near Morrinsville for many years.

The oats will be made into chaff, for which there is stated to be a good demand in the district. Owners of thoroughbred horses, both hunters and polo ponies, will probably be purchasers.

In earlier years the Morrinsville district produced large quantities of oats and wheat. “It must be 20 years sines I saw a reaper and binder working," paid one Morrinsville resident, whoss business takes him over Waikato roads daily.
