WEEK’S SINKINGS

OPERATION OF THE CONVOY SYSTEM ENEMY ACTION ACCOUNTS FOR SMALL PERCENTAGE [British Official Wireless) (Received 10th January, 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, 9th January. Sinkings due to enemy action during the week ended 6th January numbered five, representing a total tonnage of 11,143. Two of these five ships were British, namely the Boxhill, 5677 tons, and the Enz, 81 tons; and three were neutral, namely the Luna (Norwegian) 959 tons, Lars Magnus Trozelli, 1951 tons, and Svarton (Swedish) 2475 tons. To date 5911 British, Allied and neutral ships have been convoyed. Of these twelve ships, representing .2 per cent, of the total numbw have been lost by enemy action whilst in convoy.
