ANCIENT CEREMONY OBSERVED

The 800-years old ceremony at which! offerings of gold, frankincense and i myrrh are made by kings of England; at the Feast of Epiphany took place; on Saturday in the Chapel of the Royal' Saint James Palace when two gentlemen! ushers of the king placed a scarlet bag! containing the offerings before the altar. Formerly beaten gold was offered by the Kings, but since the middle of the last century the gift of gold consists of twentyfive sovereigns which are later distributed to the poor. The frankincence is subsequently given to the Church where the incense is burned, and the myrrh, which is supplied by the Royal household physician, is later sent to a hospital for treatment of throat and mouth afflictions.
