PROBATION FOR TWO TEARS A woman who was said to have kept some money which was given her to pay for a suit, appeared in the Magistrate s Court this morning charged with theft of £3 19s 6d, the property of Archie Gordon Boyce, at Wellington, and breacn of probation. Accused, who was named Nancy Rita King, pleaded guilty. Mr T. E. Maunsell S.M., was on the bench. Detective Sergeant F. Hayhurst, who • ’as in charge of the prosecution, said (hat the accused had kept a boarding ;iOuse in Wellington. Complainant, who had stayed at the house, had ordered a uit and paid £3 deposit on it. Having to leave before the suit was ready he had given the accused the balance of £3 19s 6d owing and asked her to colle?t the suit. The suit was sent to him with a l-eceipt for the amount. However, accused had called at the tailor’s and stated that complainant was too s by to ask for credit and wanted the suit and would pay for it later. She bad been given the suit. The Magistrate commented that the accused had had an opportunity and had abused it. The accused said that complainant’s -irl friends had suggested it and had Mled in the paper. Complainant still wed her (accused) £6 for board. She TOught it was board money he was givig her. The Magistrate said that he would • :ive her another chance and admit ~er to probation for two years. A conation was made that she repay the money.
