Confidence on the Stock Exchange is well maintained. Gilt-edged stocks are firmer all round. There is considerable buying of Australian and Now Zealand stocks. Australian 5 percents touched £IOO ss. and New Zealand 44 per cent.. 1948-58. £B6 15s. The “Daily Mail’s” financial editor suggests the demand is due to the idea that histoi-y may repeat itself and the value of exports rise substantially, as they did in the last war.
