MOTUEKA W.E.A.
DISCUSSION GROUP IMMIGRATION RESTRICTIONS Keen interest is being taken by the memebrs of the W.E.A. Discussion Group, which meets at the High School every Thursday evening. A course of International Relations is being taken and for the last two meetings a careful i study has been made of the Refugee Problem. The racial and economic dif- | ficulties were examined and found to have little weight: in fact economically j it was considered it would be an asset to our Dominion to have a number of selected European refugees, and on humanitarian grounds it was agreed that it was up to our Dominion to open its doors and receive a greater number of them than is being done at present.
On the motion of Mr S. B Canavan. and Rev. H. V. Utting, the following resolution was carried: "That the Government be urged to relax the present i restrictions on immigration and that more selected Continental refugees I should be admitted into the Dominion.”
It was decided that the resolution be sent to the Minister of Customs and the Member for the district, Mr C. F. Skin-
Eleven members were present when the resolution was carried.
A letter was received from the W.E.A. organiser for the district. Mr A. M. Richards, M.A., whose headquarters are at Wellington. As he was willing to pay a visit to the Group, it was decided to invite him to give an address on Thursday, 14th September.
In was intimated that there would be no meeting next week on account of the Musical Competitions, but any new members would be made welcome on any following Thursday.
