A promise of the past two days was realised to-day. when over the ranges to the north-west of Gisborne, and extending down to the lower hills withir a few miles of the Poverty Bay flats a mantle of snow was laid by the cold est storm of the year. On the lowlands intensely cold rain was falling throughout the greater part of the da.\ and the conditions for stock in unsheltered parts of the district were ex tremely trying. Heavy stock losses however, are not expected by many station owners.
