SMALL STEAMER WRECKED

One man was drowned and eight others narrowly escaped death when the small steamer Atlantic was wrecked last night on Flinders Reef, eight miles north-east of Cape Moreton. The drowned man was hurled overboard when the vessel which was formerly used as a minesweeper, struck the reef.
The crew set fire to the wheelhouse and kept the fire going with clothing to attract other boats in the vicinity.
