BIRTHDAY HONOURS
ANNOUNCED IN FIJI IU.E.A.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrigbtl SUVA, 9th June. The following birthday honours have been announced:— K. 8.: Mr Justice Corrie. C.8.E.: Mr Ratu Sukuna. 0.8. E.: Mr A. L. Armstrong, British Agent in Tonga. 1.5.0.: Mr A. A. Ragg, former assist-ant-director of public works. Colonial Police Medal; Superintendents G. G. Kermode and I. E. Lucchinelli. Mr Justice Corrie, K. 8., has been Chief Justice of Fiji and Chief Judicial Commissioner for the Western Pacific since 1936. After studying at Trinity College, Cambridge, he became a barrister of Gray’s Inn. During the war he served in France, Belgium and Palestine with the North Somerset Yeomanry, being decorated with the Military Cross, and being mentioned in dispatches twice. He was demobilised with the rank of major and continued his legal career in Palestine. When he left Palestine to take up his present judicial position he was senior puisine judge of the Supreme Court of Palestine.
Ratu J. L. V. Sukuna, C.8.E., is Native Lands Commissioner of Fiji. He is a native of Fiji, but was educated at Wanganui College and Oxford. He has served in the French Foreign Legion, being wounded in 1916.
