GERMAN TRADE WITH SOUTH-EAST EUROPE

Germany’s trade with south-east Europe increased by 40 per cent, in the first quarter of 1939 compared with last year. Exports to Britain were reduced by one quarter, to France by one third, to Belgium and Luxemburg by 11 \ per cent., and to the Netherlands by 10 per cent.
The favourable balance of trade with South-east Europe was £1,376,000, compared with an unfavourable balance of £3,064.000 in the first quarter of 1938. The total of Reich exports were £100,992,000, and imports £103,152,000, but greater Germany showed an adverse balance of £8,992,000.
