PROPOSED MUNICIPAL FERNERY
QUESTION REFERRED TO RESERVES COMMITTEE GENEROUS DONATION BY FERN SOCIETY The Nelson City Council last evening received a sum of £l6 17s 6d from the Nelson Fern Society as the nucleus of a fund for the establishment of a municipal fernery.
In moving a motion of thanks to the society, the Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) said the amount had been placed in a Municipal Fernery Trust Account. The Society had recently held a very fine show, and the idea of establishing a municipal fernery was an excellent one. The Council appreciated the generous gift and he hoped that others would supplement the fund. Councillor E. R. Neale also commented on the magnificent show held by the society and he moved that the question of establishing a municipal fernery be referred to the Reserves Committee for investigation.
Councillor S. W. Street seconded the motion. He said that the society’s show had been a revelation, and was probably the finest effort of its kind ever staged in the Dominion. The motion was then carried.
