(2) That when such estimates are available they be submitted to the J oin highways Board with a request that the Board undertake the work as part of the scheme for promoting additional road safety in accordance with /.J 0 *? olic 7 of the Safety Council. ' 3> That in the meantime, arrangements be made for the taking of a tally of the number of pedestrians using this particular part of the road on a Saturday and Sunday.

RESERVES SUPERINTENDENT The report of the Superintendent of Reserves <Mr A White) for the fortnight ending 13th April was as follows: The four new Croquet Lawns on the reclamation reserve have been sown down. Nelson Croquet Lawns.—B Lawn subsided considerably this season, but har been brought up to its proper level and re-sown. The other three lawns have stood up remarkably well and will be top-dressed as soon as play Botanical Reserve—Plav will be confined to the southern end of this Reserve to allow for as much re-turfing and levelling as is possible before the end of the month Victory Square.—This Reserve is in a very bad condition and a considerableamount of top-dressing is necessary to give a good plaving surface. Trafalgar Park is receiving a light dressing along the western side. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER The Electrical Engineer (Mr E. Flemine> reported for the fortnight ending \3th April os follows:—City applications 34.36 (increase 8). city extensions 7696 (increase .32); tv 11.132 (increase 40) Lighting load applied Tor 2135 k.w (increase 4 k.w.), heating load applied for 6456 k.w. (increas e3O k.w.). power load applied for 2603 k.w. (increase nil); total 11.194 k.w (increase 34 k.w.). Peak load : Day 650 k.w.; night 900 k.w. The evening load on the Power Stai tion is 800 to 820 k.w. and 900 k.w on I Friday r.ight. We are now running well into the turbine overload capacity 1 intend, from Monday. 17th April, to run the second engine set daily to relieve the load or the turbine All the four boilers are now under steam and it will be necessary to double the afternoon ■;hift from Monday to Friday throughout the winter months.
