NELSON HARMONIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING HELD VISIT OF WELLINGTON CHORAL UNION There was only a fair attendance at the Nelson Harmonic Society's annual meeting at which the president, Sir Thomas Easterfield. occupied the chair. The statement of accounts, showing a satisfactory improvement in the society’s financial position, were adopted. The chairman said that the year’s activities were very pleasing, and hoped that in spite of changed conditions the society would continue to flourish. The desirability of further increase in membership, both performing and honorary was stressed. The secretary informed the meeting f f the proposal he had received from the Royal Wellington Choral Union to come to Nelson at the end of the j'ear, and perform, in conjunction with the Nelson Society, the “Messiah** under the distinguished conductorship of Mr Stanley *oliver. This proposal has been accepted by the committee subject to satisfactory anangements being made. The value of such a visit could not b_ overestimated, and it would give a decided fillip to the local society’s effort in the musical line. A view of this proposal increased membership is confidently anticipated. The election cf officers resulted as follows: President, Sir Thomas Easterfield: vice president, Miss J. Ste.vart, Mr H V. Searle; committee, Messrs J. G. McKay, L. B. Rowe, E. A. Wood, C. T. Webley, N. Healy, K. Gravit, H. Holland; hon. secretary, Mr C. J. Du Flou; assistant secretary. Mr E. A. Wood; hon librarian. Captain D. Norris-Hill; hon. auditor, Mr F. Mitchell. The conductor amiounced that practices would recommence cn Thursday, 16th March, and hoped for full attendances right from the first rehearsal.
