RED CROSS AND ST. JOHN The particular functions and commitmentments of the respective organisations of the Order of SJ,. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society are delineated in a statement issued by the Joint Council of these bodies as follows: — ORDER OF ST. JOHN First aid. home nursing, ambulance j work, instruction of public. | Promotion of organisations for ser-1 vice in peace and war:—Ambulance j brigade, ambulance transport, home | nursing, junior cadet divisions, and provision of technical services of the j medical services of the Dominion. The formation of ambulance depots and first-aid posts in or near mines, factories, highways, railway stations, etc. Hospital and sick-room appliances apart from comforts. Blood transfusion service. District Nursing Service (bedside). N.Z. RED CROSS SOCIETY Provision of disaster relief. Instruction ia public health and hygiene. Promotion of health and prevention of disease. Instruction of Red Cross V.A.D.’s :n first-aid, home nursing, etc. Organisation of V.A.D.’s for service in peace, war, and disaster. Relief of local distress. Hospital comforts (as apart from appliances). Comforts for institutional inmates. Relief of cripples and other afflicted human beings. Health and wellbeing of Maori people. Employment of qualified nurses for service in matters affecting the health and wel!-*elng of the community. Junior Red Cross.
Where activities have been established in various centres either by the Order or the Society, which do not j conform to the suggested definition, they should not be disturbed, but there should be no extension into new terri- ' tories.
