. - MAITAI DEFEAT COLLEGE In a Junior A grade championship i match played at Vanguard street, on Saturday. Maitai gained an outright ‘ victory over College by an innings and 35 runs College had hist use of the wicket, and although they started their innings badly, they scored a total of 120 runs When their third wicket fell. College had a total of only 8 runs, but Sanford ( put up a stand and had scored 17 runs when he was bowled by J. Goodman He was followed by Kershaw and PeVPher, who brought the total up : slightly. Kershaw scoring a total of 11 1 runs and Peycher 10. Gully was the , next man in. and he settled down and ' batted very solidly for his 43 runs. ' Johnson 10 was the best of the remain- | ing batsmen. Bowling for Maitai. R. Goodman took one wicket for 18 runs. G. Taylor took three wickets for 52 runs. J. Hay took two wickets for 24 runs, and J. Goodman took three wickets for 12 runs. Maitai scored a total of 175 runs, declared. for eight wickets. Townsend i and Mclvor were the opening batsmen, land both started to score very freely, i 50 runs being knocked off the first four j overs. Townsend was dismissed when : he had scored 19 runs, but Mclvor went on to score 52 runs before he was caught. N. Batchelor was the next ! batsman in. and had scored 26 runs when his wicket fell. Lucre took one : wicket for 28 runs, Peycher three for 145. and Sanford two for 22. j College then had their second innings and collapsed completely, scoring a total of only 26 runs agaist the good bowling of M. Townsend. The best, scores were Palmer 10. Peycher 6. Bowling for Maitai. Townsend took seven wickets for 7 runs, and J. Good- ' man took three wickets for 7 runs.
