The Minister of Agriculture, Sir Reginald Dorman-Smith, announced in the House of Commons to-day that the Government had reached the conclusion that it was necessary to give additional assistance to barley and oats and proposed that, when a long term policy had been finally settled, it should be applied retrospectively to both these cereals in respect of the 1938 crops.
