JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
F. REID IN FORM WITH BAT Victory met and defeated Tahuna on Saturday at Tahuna. Winning the toss Tahuna sent Victory in to bat and quick scoring was the order of the day. Carey and Garguilo gave the side a good start, but four were down for 65. Holland and Donald went for runs and six wickets were down for 172. Reid hit hard and often and it was pleasing to see this bright innings after his “K” Cup failure. The innings closed for 235. Bowling for Tahuna, Coombs three wickets for 51: W. Veysey four wickets for 76, Hobern three for 40. McDonald none for 16, Simister none for 26 shared the wickets. Tahuna went in to bat at 4.40 p.m. and lost one for 12. Then Veysey began to hit out and runs also came freely for Tahuna. Hobern and Veysey made merry for a period, but four wickets were down for 113. The tail refused to wag, and Tahuna batting two men short were all out for 136. After the last two batsmen tried vainly to play out time, they missed by only three minutes. Bowling for Victory K. Holland three for 23, F. Reid one for 16, Rberts none for 21, Garguilo one for 18, Langstone two for 24, and Mayers one for 6. Chief scorers for Victory, Reid 70 not out, Holland 53, Carey 32, Donald 24. Garguilo 16. Campbell 13. Batting for Tahuna, W. Veysey 49. Hobern 22, Chamberlain, Coombs and McDonald all secured 10 runs each. The game resulted in a four point win for Victory. The batsmen in this match, in the K Cup game only reached 25 between them, and in this game scored over 200 runs.
