BOY SEVERELY BURNED

EXPLOSION OF METHYLATED SPIRITS iUnited Press Association! WHANGAREI, This Day. A seven-year-old boy, Evan Moran, received serious burns as a result of methylated spirits exploding when a primus burner was being lit last night by Reuben Moran, of Beresford street, Russell. After igniting the spirit in the pan of the primus he left the room for a few minutes. When he returned he thought the spirit had completely burned out, and added more from a bottle and this immediately exploded, throwing flames into the face of his son who was watching. The boy. whose clothing was ignited, was terrified and fled. Mr Moran pursued his son and tore the flaming clothing from him and wrapped the boy in blankets. The severely burned child was brought to Whangarei Hospital for treatment.
