SCHOOL JUBILEE
CLYDE QUAY CELEBRATIONS The committee which has charge of | the arrangements for the jubilee cele- 1 brations of the Clyde Quay School, Wellington, next month is receiving encouraging support from many of the old pupils of the school (says the “Post’ ). Among the many letters received is one from Mr F. C. Carolane, of Melbourne, who intends arriving in Wellington four days before the celebrations begin, after an absence from New Zealand extending over 27 years. Mr Carolane writes that he still cherishes a medal he won at cricket, and recalls | a battle royal with the Mt. Cook j School eleven, when he had the doubtl ful honour of having his wickets skittled by Clarric Grimmett, a bowler j who afterwards attained national honours. The celebrations promise to be high-I ly successful, though the school has shifted ground. and the beloved i original headmaster, Mr W. T Grundy. | is dead. One of the original teaching 1 staff. Mrs Port (nee Miss Batt). who resides in Hawkes Bay, intends being present, in addition to several others of the earlier staff of the school, and Mr Eli Hurlstone. of Oriental Parade, who was a member of the first school committee and served in that capacity for many years. Mr C. S. Dempster, the well-known cricketer and an old boy of the school, will arrive in Wellington two days before the jubilee, and his presence at the celebrations is being looked forward to with interest, as well as the attendance of other cricketer old boys ■ such as Herb.
